ABOUT

With its brand new single, “Lula”, Vancouver music act 16mm introduces a new moment of sophistication, wit, and glamour to the current pop music landscape. The song’s bright horns, lyrical hooks and infectious beat invoke comparisons to the best parts of Hall & Oates, Dexy’s Midnight Runners and the B-52’s.

16mm is comprised of Matthew Moldowan (vocals), Jeffrey Josiah Powell (bass), Katherine Chambers (keyboards), John Stewart (guitar), and Joel Weston (drums). On stage, they boast a live show that exhibits a contagious energy and eccentric swagger. The result has had the band perform memorable opening slots for acts as diverse as Marianas Trench, Faber Drive, Shiny Toy Guns, and The Secret Machines. Moreover, in response to increased exposure, the band was called out by both The Georgia Straight and The Vancouver Sun as a Must-See act at this year’s Junofest.

16mm’s debut self-titled EP was produced by Dave “Rave” Ogilvie (Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie) and released by Universal Music Canada. From it, the band earned its second nomination for the [XM Radio] Verge Music Awards’ Artist of the Year (2008, 2009).

A music video for Lula was completed in June 2009 by JP Poliquin (Insider Films) and will be serviced to Muchmusic and MTV Canada in mid-August.

“It’s just a matter of time before they start to invade your airwaves, they might be ahead of the times.”
